Director of Human Resources

West Michigan | Manufacturing | Onsite

An established, growing manufacturing company in West Michigan is seeking an experienced Director of Human Resources to lead all aspects of the HR function. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing strategic initiatives with day-to-day HR operations and wants to make a meaningful impact on employees, leaders, and company culture.

Reporting to the President, this role serves as a trusted business partner to the leadership team while ensuring the company's HR programs, compliance, talent strategies, and employee support systems operate effectively across both office and manufacturing environments.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all core HR functions including talent acquisition, employee relations, compensation and benefits, compliance, HRIS, payroll oversight, and performance management.
  • Partner with leadership on workforce planning, organizational development, succession planning, and strategic HR initiatives.
  • Recruit and onboard salaried and hourly employees while strengthening the company's employer brand.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to managers on employee relations, coaching, investigations, conflict resolution, and performance issues.
  • Oversee compensation programs, annual salary planning, benefits administration, and vendor relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, OSHA requirements, leave administration, workers' compensation, and HR policies.
  • Maintain and improve HR processes, systems, and documentation to support continued business growth.
  • Partner with operational leaders to support employee engagement, retention, and leadership development initiatives.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive HR leadership experience with broad responsibility across multiple HR disciplines.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, industrial, or distribution operations.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, employee relations, compensation, benefits, compliance, and HR operations.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership and influencing business decisions.
  • HRIS and payroll systems experience.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and relationship-building skills.
