Intensive Outpatient Counseling Intern (Master's Level)
Location: Wedgwood's Ekhart Site, Northeast Grand Rapids

Gain Hands-On Experience in Adolescent IOP Counseling

We are seeking motivated practicum students to join our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), serving adolescents.

Our IOP meets three times per week for three-hour group sessions and utilizes an adolescent-centered, motivation-to-change model that is both engaging and holistic. In this role, you will gain hands-on experience supporting youth navigating substance use and related challenges such as anger management, life skills development, and relationship building.

You’ll work alongside experienced clinicians to develop your clinical skills through group work, experiential interventions, and real-time therapeutic support.


Schedule & Compensation

  • Program meets 3 days/week for 3-hour group sessions
  • Additional hours may be available based on placement needs
  • $16.00/hour

What You’ll Learn & Do

With guidance from a supervising clinician, you will:

  • Observe and assist in group therapy sessions within the IOP setting
  • Support and co-facilitate experiential and skills-based group interventions
  • Engage with youth using a motivation-to-change and trauma-informed approach
  • Assist in treatment planning and implementation of evidence-based practices
  • Participate in clinical documentation and case preparation
  • Collaborate with the treatment team to support holistic care
  • Engage in regular supervision, feedback, and professional development
  • Help maintain a safe, respectful, and therapeutic environment grounded in the Sanctuary Model® (safety, emotional intelligence, open communication, and social learning)

Background & Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Master’s program (MSW, Professional Counseling, or related field)
  • Strong interest in working with adolescents, particularly in substance use treatment
  • Commitment to ethical practice, cultural humility, and professional growth
  • Ability to maintain consistent, reliable attendance and adhere to scheduled hours
  • Alignment with Wedgwood’s Statement of Faith, vision, and values
