Community Education Assistant (Full-Time) VanderArk B Program
What you'll do
Under the direction of the Education Coordinator, and Home Supervisor, the Community Education Assistant provides direct oversight of the education of public school based residential students. They work cooperatively with public school officials and residential programs to contribute to a quality education for girls in our care.
HOURS OF WORK: Monday- Friday, 7-3pm

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide oversight of the Community Education Programs. In collaboration with the clinicians, facilitate the intake and discharge plans for clients.
- Provide Direct Care coverage.
- Collaborate with Shift Supervisor and DCS to determine daily school needs related to appointments, transportation needs, emergencies etc
- Collaborate with the clinicians in decision making around client education needs and education program changes, etc.
- Collaborate with Education Coordinator for enrollment of clients into community schools
- Facilitate the placement of clients attending school in the community.
- Oversees communication and interaction with off ground public school education teams.
- Coordinate with clinicians the distribution of school records e.g. grade reports, summary reports at discharge.
- Attend all IEP meetings, Parent/Teacher conferences, and all school meetings to support client success.
- Attend all team meetings to provide educational updates and input, for suggestions from staff, to participate in discussions to facilitate teamwork, and to promote smooth functioning between support services and home teams.
- Provide weekly communication with parent or legal guardian on progress of school for each client.
- Regular participation in supervision meetings and team meetings for the sharing of ideas, feedback and department planning.
- Utilize opportunities provided for growth and professional development; this includes ongoing participation in training sessions or workshops.
- Express ideas, suggestions, and concerns in a timely and appropriate manner, using established channels and opportunities to seek resolution.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required, degree in Education or Human Services field strongly preferred.
- Minimum of two years of experience working with adolescents.
- Prior experience working with an interdisciplinary team in a residential treatment setting preferred.
- Subscription to the Statement of Faith of Wedgwood Christian Youth & Family Services and agreement with the goal, purpose and objectives of the agency.
