| Varnum LLP is looking for a Human Resources Assistant to join the Grand Rapids office. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks and projects in a professional services environment. This full-time position works Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Job Description: The Human Resources Assistant will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the organization’s human resource department. Duties/Responsibilities: • Process changes in HRIS related to employment status administration of attorneys and staff members. • Assists with all aspects of onboarding. Conducts new hire orientation sessions, facility tours, and team introductions. • Helps with writing, proofreading, and sending internal communications. • Provides general administrative support to the HR department. • Creates, maintains, and organizes employee files, both physical and electronic. • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately. • Assists with recruitment and interview process, checking professional references, and scheduling interviews. • Reconciles monthly HR disbursements. • Organizes firm wide employee wellness events, recognition events, and lunch and learn trainings. • Coordinates all aspects of retirement celebrations. • Ensures smooth communication and prompt attention to requests and questions. • Assists with staff coverage for planned and unplanned absences. Required Skills/Abilities: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. • Proficiency with basic math skills related to budget spending, salary calculations, etc. • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. • Ability to function well in a fast-paced environment. • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures. • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Education and Experience: • Bachelor’s degree in related field required. • Prior professional services experience preferred. • Experience with an HRIS or applicant tracking system preferred.
