Varnum LLP, a Michigan-based, full-service business law firm with over 200 attorneys and six offices has a full-time opening for an experienced Paralegal working with the Litigation Practice Team. This role can be based in any Varnum office.
The Litigation Support Paralegal provides comprehensive litigation and eDiscovery support to attorneys and legal teams throughout all phases of litigation matters. This role is responsible for managing electronic discovery workflows, administering and utilizing the Relativity platform, coordinating document productions, supporting trial preparation, and ensuring the efficient organization and retrieval of case-related information. The ideal candidate combines strong technical proficiency with excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced legal environment.
Key Responsibilities
  1. Litigation Support & Case Management
  • Support attorneys and litigation teams in all phases of litigation, arbitration, investigations, and regulatory matters.
  • Manage case files, document databases, pleadings, exhibits, correspondence, and discovery materials.
  • Coordinate and track deadlines related to discovery, court filings, and productions.
  • Assist with preparation for depositions, hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Organize and maintain case chronologies, witness files, exhibit lists, and privilege logs.
  • Review and analyze legal documents for relevance, responsiveness, confidentiality, and privilege.
  1. eDiscovery & Relativity Administration
  • Utilize Relativity to support document review, analytics, searching, tagging, coding, and productions.
  • Coordinate the collection, processing, loading, and export of electronically stored information (ESI).
  • Create and manage workspaces, saved searches, review batches, and production sets within Relativity.
  • Perform quality control checks on data loads, productions, metadata, and document coding.
  • Troubleshoot basic Relativity and eDiscovery workflow issues in coordination with internal eDiscovery Team and/or Relativity support and external vendors.
  • Maintain chain of custody documentation and ensure compliance with litigation hold requirements.
  • Assist attorneys with aiR (AI for Relativity) as well Relativity Review Center for AI-powered, prioritized workflows utilizing native, image, or text viewers to evaluate documents and apply coding decisions via structured layouts.
  1. Document Production & Trial Preparation
  • Prepare and manage document productions in accordance with court rules, protective orders, and client specifications.
  • Coordinate Bates labeling, redactions, OCR processing, and privilege reviews.
  • Prepare electronic and physical trial binders, exhibits, demonstratives, and witness materials.
  • Support trial teams onsite and remotely with presentation technology and evidence management tools.
  1. Collaboration & Communication
  • Serve as a liaison between attorneys, clients, vendors, court personnel, and internal departments.
  • Coordinate with outside eDiscovery vendors regarding data processing, hosting, and productions.
  • Train attorneys and staff on litigation support technologies and best practices as needed.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive client information.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and/or Paralegal Certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of litigation support or litigation paralegal experience in a law firm or corporate legal department.
  • Strong working knowledge of Relativity and eDiscovery workflows.
  • Experience with ESI processing, document review platforms, and litigation databases.
  • Familiarity with federal and state rules regarding discovery and electronically stored information.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with trial presentation software and additional litigation support tools preferred.

  • Relativity Certified Administrator (RCA) or Relativity Certified User certification preferred.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted review and analytics tools within Relativity.
  • Trial experience preferred.
