Description:

Position Summary:
The Occupational Therapist will independently assume responsibility and accountability for the evaluation, assessment, and creation of a plan of care for patients assigned to their care. The occupational therapist will work in accordance with facility and departmental policies and procedures and maintain the highest quality of patient care. The occupational therapist is responsible for and will collaborate with occupational therapist assistants with whom they delegate patient care. This colleague will work cooperatively and collectively with the varying interdisciplinary teams established throughout the facility. Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays based on the specific site demands. Travel may be required based on needs.

The occupational therapist is responsible for the maintenance of their national certification, state licensure, and the necessary requirements for continuing education. The occupational therapist is responsible to the service area manager
and/or the designated site leader.

Weekend and Holiday Expectation:
The relief occupational therapist will work a minimum of one Saturday every 4 weeks.
The relief occupational therapist will work one holiday per calendar year based on department needs.

Education:
Must be a graduate of a Master's or previously equivalent educational program accredited by the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
• Required: Bachelor’s Degree (B.S.) in Occupational Therapy.
• Preferred: Master’s Degree (M.S) in Occupational Therapy.

Required Certification and Licensure:
• State of Michigan Occupational Therapist License or eligible to obtain licensure prior to hire.

Related Experience:
• Preferred: 1-year professional experience
• American Heart Association BLS or equivalent

Other Qualifications:
• Competency of Microsoft suite of office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Teams)
• Basic computer skills
• Proficient and effective use of EMR standards
• Ability to work in a team environment
• Excellent customer service skills necessary to interact with patients, peers, and providers to maintain and promote positive relationships
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills to portray a professional customer image
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to problem solve effectively based on established policies and procedures

Position Purpose:

What the Occupational Therapist ( OT ) Will Do:

  • Independently evaluate the functional abilities/disabilities of the client including the ability to perform activities of daily living, mobility, range of motion, strength, coordination, or other functional limitations. This individual will establish a functional baseline and plan of care to be used to demonstrate progress through therapeutic intervention.

  • Accountable for the application of a written treatment plan and administers treatment for each patient according to the stated goals.

  • Re-evaluates patient's status and effects of treatment when warranted. Reviews goals with patient and family as appropriate during plan of care.

  • Colleagues will help to train patients and their family in the use of medical equipment and make recommendations for appropriate equipment as necessary.
