Description:

Position purpose:

Responsible for effectively utilizing a cost-effective purchasing and inventory control system. Coordinates purchasing activities with user departments. Reviews purchase requisitions for accuracy and completeness, reviews requisitions, reviews, or holds requisition for appropriate approval. Responsible for identifying cost saving opportunities, processing improvements, and negotiating contractual agreements. Maintain constant open lines of communication with all departments within the company. Communicates with supplier changes in specifications, change orders, quantities, and adjustments.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School education with an emphasis in business and accounting classes.

  • Sound grasp of the principles of general accounting, budget management and related issues are required.

  • Several years of recent experience in a directly related position within an acute hospital setting is preferred.

  • Professional certification in Heatlh Care Materials and/or Purchasing is preferred.

  • Completion of a Baccalaureate degree or its equivalent, with emphasis in business, finance, accounting or marketing is preferred.

What the Materials Management Buyer will do:

  • Contact suppliers, review prices for best lowest total cost.

  • Ascertains availability and shipping schedules and places all orders with designated vendors.

  • Arranges and processes necessary paperwork for the return and/or exchange of items and maintains accurate records of transactions.

  • Verifies and updates Meditech Dictionaries.

  • Audits departmental purchase order requisitions for duplication, completeness and accuracy.

  • Meets with sales representatives as needed.
