Position Purpose:
The Orderly assist surgery colleagues and physicians in providing professional, quality, and service-oriented care to the patient and family.
What the Orderly Will Do:
Performs patient transport.
Responds to surgical room cleaning turnover needs including damp disinfectant dusting,
mopping, removal of contaminated biohazard waste and linens.
Assists in preparation for surgical procedures.
Opens and assists with delivery of sterile supplies to the sterile field.
Breaks down the sterile field and returns contaminated carts to the decontamination area.
Terminally cleans transport stretchers and returns them to a point of care.
Picks up assigned floor beds for the surgical patient post procedure.
Transports lab and pathology specimens to various receiving departments.
Assists with surgical shave preps and scrub preps as directed by the perioperative registered nurse.
Assists with patient positioning as directed by the perioperative registered nurse.
Assists with collection and transport of X-rays to the surgical suites.
Assists with pick up and collection of blood products.
Assists in transportation and patient care needs for PACU as directed.
Performs surgical light maintenance demonstrated by changing light bulbs.
Prepares operating room admission packets.
Keep the hallways and exits clear and clean.
Monitors outdate on sterile supplies.
Monitors medical gases for correct storage and inventory levels.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school graduate.
Preferred: Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent education and /or experience.
Current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification or completion of certification within a probationary period.
Preferred: prior patient care experience.
Preferred: knowledge of medical terminology and sterile techniques.
Ability to push/pull and/or lift 50 lbs.
