Description:
Generates treatment plans and dose calculations based on prescribed care plan. Works under the general direction of the physicist in Radiation Oncology department.
Job Summary
The Medical Dosimetrist generates treatment plans and dose calculations in accordance with the prescribed care plan. This role works under the general direction of the Medical Physicist and collaborates closely with physicians, therapists, and clinical staff to ensure safe and accurate radiation delivery.
What You Will Do
- Prepare computerized radiation treatment plans.
- Calculate treatment times and monitor units for various therapeutic machines.
- Perform dosimetry checks on treatment charts to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Assist in obtaining patient contours, measurements, and other required data for treatment planning and dose calculations.
- Support the set‑up of complex treatments in both simulation and treatment rooms.
- Work closely with and under the direction of Medical Physicists to ensure precise treatment planning and radiation safety.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
Minimum:
- Associate degree in a related field.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Credentials & Licensure
Minimum:
- Certification by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board (MDCB), with active maintenance of certification.
- CPR certification (or re‑certification) within three months of hire and maintained thereafter.
Experience & Skills
Minimum:
- One year of dosimetry experience.
- Basic math proficiency and aptitude for geometry.
- Ability to read, write, and understand English.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to work collaboratively.
- Demonstrated ability to apply independent thinking and sound judgment in decision‑making.
Computer Competency
- Proficiency with standard desktop and Windows‑based systems, including email, intranet, e‑learning modules, and general navigation.
- Ability to use software tools required for treatment planning and other essential job functions.
Physical & Mental Requirements
Minimum:
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, stooping, and twisting.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects up to 10 lbs (frequently) and 30 lbs (occasionally).
- Occasional bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, and squatting.
- Frequent performance of detailed tasks with interruptions and changing priorities.
- Ability to hear speech clearly and speak loudly as needed.
- Use of near vision, fine motor skills, depth perception, and manual dexterity.
- Ability to distinguish sounds, temperatures, textures, and odors.
