About the Department
Infusion pharmacy is a specialized area within a healthcare facility where medications are prepared, dispensed, and administered through infusion (e.g., intravenous, subcutaneous, Intrathecal, etc.). The pharmacy focuses on providing complex, often high-risk treatments for patients requiring intravenous medications, such as chemotherapy, antibiotics, iron or immunotherapy drugs.
Position Purpose
Under the direction of a Registered Pharmacist, assists pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, and maintaining patient records maintaining the drug inventory.
Performs all job functions of the Pharmacy Technician Specialist as needed/appropriate for the Home Infusion Pharmacy department. Performs pharmacy supportive functions requiring an advanced level of training and additional levels of responsibility; may focus on advanced technical skills. Performs tasks requiring independent judgement, advanced technical skills, and creative problem solving. Demonstrates performance that consistently meets quality assurance standards. Performs sterile IV compounding with complex formula for home infusion patients. The consequences of a compounding or drug selection error, if undetected could result in serious patient injury. Maintains patient records for delivery ticket confirmation, ABN; which are required prior to claim submission. Also responsible for thinning patient charts, filing nursing notes and other paperwork to maintain patient records. Additionally, assist with gathering supplies for deliveries and scheduling deliveries.

Education:
Minimum of six months specialized training beyond high school.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year experience in sterile compounding, previous home infusion pharmacy experience preferred.
Licensure / Certification:
Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician in the State of Michigan is required.
