GENERAL SUMMARY:
Delivers intraoperative care to the surgical patient, primarily in the scrub role. Serves the patients from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Scrubs surgical cases in own specialty independently and in other areas with minimal direction.
· Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up and functioning and seeks appropriate resource when necessary.
· Assists in the circulating role under the direct supervision of R.N.
· Prepares for surgical cases in an efficient manner, anticipating needs of patient, surgeon, anesthesia and other O.R. team members.
· Provides a safe environment for patient and staff by adhering to standards of aseptic technique and department/hospital policy.
· Communicates effectively with patient, staff and physicians.
· Actively participate in providing 1 in-services per year at unit or service level. In-services are approved by Manager prior to presentation.
· Complete 40 hours of continuing education every 4 years.
· Formal Preceptor for students and new employees. Complete preceptor orientation paperwork within established time frames.
· Assumes responsibility for professional growth through participation in educational programs and membership in a professional organization.
· Acts as resource person in such areas as policies and procedures, regulatory requirements (Joint Commission, OSHA) and suggests updates to policies and procedures as needed.
· Serves as a clinical resource for clinical questions about surgical procedures, instrumentation and equipment.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Completion of accredited Surgical Technology program or Certification from National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or enrollment in a certified Nursing Program to become an RN or 15+ years of experience.
· 2 years of experience required.
· Basic Life Support certified within six (6) weeks of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
· Proof of completion of Adult and Child Mandatory Reporter abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
· Ability to read, write and speak English language.
