Description:
Full and part time roles available in all departments.
What the Nurse Extern will do:
- Respond to patient call lights for assistance or by rounding
- Collaborates with members of the health care team to ensure consistency and high-quality patient care and promotes productive
employee relations among staff members. - Assists the registered nurse by observing and reporting on patient conditions, recording/charting patient information and
interacting with patient and family members. Reports changes in patient medical and/or emotional condition to the registered nurse.
Documents interventions and patient responses accurately, completely and timely (real time as per policy). Assists nursing personnel
in responding to various emergency patient situations. - Performs a variety of basic patient care activities under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse which may include, but are not
limited to: - Nasogastric (NG) tube Insertion
- Maintenance functional activities
- Dressing changes
- ECG
- Maintenance of enteral tubes
- Suctioning
- Blood glucose monitoring
- Assisting with postmortem care
- Phlebotomy
- Initiation of peripheral IV lines and urinary catheterization
- Monitoring and managing patient safety
Nurse Extern Minimum Requirements Include:
- Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited school of nursing. Has successfully completed two clinical semesters of nursing school.
- Preferred Additional requirements of coursework dependent on the area of assignment.
Preferred Requirements include:
- EMT, Paramedic, Nurse aide or CENA experience in a health care setting; acute care experience preferred.
- BCLS - Basic Cardiac Life Support.
