The Structural Engineering Designer I supports the engineering discipline by designing and developing structural systems, performs structural analysis, completes design tasks, and models assignments for various building types, sizes, and materials. Manages the delivery of project work from concept design through to final construction documentation, ensuring strong customer focus through tech-savviness and effective planning. Possesses basic knowledge of generating and translating design concepts into final solutions, applying quick learning, action-oriented problem-solving, and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with a multi-disciplinary team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Project Deliverables
Support the incorporation of overall design intent into detailed documentation, assisting in producing contract documents while developing their design thinking skills.
Prepare building models and detailed contract documents for various project types, refining technical skills and gaining exposure to different delivery methods.
Gain knowledge of design software (Revit, AutoCAD, RISA, RAM) for presentations and production, building proficiency in emerging technologies.
Project Collaboration
Assist in developing project specifications in coordination with drawings, learning to align them with company standards.
Coordinate technical aspects with internal team members and external consultants, learning to ensure integration and communication across project teams.
Communicate regularly with more senior staff and P.E.s to stay updated on project scope, design changes, and budget adjustments, gradually taking on more responsibility.
Assist with tracking of shared electronic documentation and utilizing it to gain familiarity with managing information between project teams, clients, contractors, and consultants.
Review and Compliance
Review own work for accuracy and assists with compliance, learning quality control processes before submitting for reviews by others.
Alert senior team members to inconsistencies in design and documentation, while developing the ability to proactively resolve them.
Teamwork and Support
Actively participate in team meetings and ‘Lessons Learned’ sessions, contributing insights and learning from more experienced staff.
Build trust with clients by demonstrating expertise, with opportunities to gradually take on additional client-facing responsibilities.
SPECIALIZED ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE
Gain increased knowledge and understanding of structural materials (steel, concrete, timber) and their behavior under-loads to assist the determination of solutions.
Continuously learn about analyzing different types of loads (dead, live, wind, seismic) and how they affect different structures to produce details of an architectural design.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Licensure
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering required.
Pursuing the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) exam is preferred.
Post-graduation professional engineering experience preferred.
Technology Skills
Comfortable with the use use of technology and standard software tools and search engines.
Comfortable using Revit and AutoCAD.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to sit for extended periods, use a computer, and occasionally lift items up to 25 pounds and work in various environments including office and field settings.
