Meijer offers an 11-week internship program that challenges interns to deliver innovative solutions to real projects that impact the business. Throughout the course of the internship experience, we deliver diverse personal and professional development opportunities that further develop skillsets that can be implemented both during and after the program. The internship program will allow for interaction with other interns and Meijer senior leaders.

The Meijer Legal Department’s mission is to listen and partner with our fellow Meijer team members to achieve their business goals using proactive, strategic, and creative solutions. Our Legal Intern will support the Meijer in-house attorneys in fulfilling this mission.
The intern will learn from a variety of practical, real-world in-house counsel experiences including the following:
- Opportunity to support attorneys in the commercial transaction practice group in various ways, including work on developing contract clauses and clause library for inclusion into a developing contract lifecycle management system.
- Conduct legal research and draft memoranda
- Review and analyze caselaw, statutes and guidelines
- Attend and participate in internal meetings and provide input on various Meijer initiatives
- Assist with special projects
- Learn about contemporary retail business strategy and tactics, as well as the complexities of providing risk-tolerant legal advice in a fast-paced environment
The intern may also get exposure to other activities of the function, including:

Qualifications:
- First-year JD candidate currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. law school
- Available to work hybrid schedule at Meijer corporate office (in person Monday to Wednesday with the option of remote work on Thursday and Friday)
- Excellent legal writing and research skills
- Independent thinker, with strong critical reasoning and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter, able to manage ambiguity and possessing courage to try new things
- Capable of building new relationships and possessing emotional intelligence
- Comfort in a corporate environment, including among senior business executives
- Dedicated to exceeding customer expectations
- A passion to compete
- Excellent communication skills
- Microsoft Office experience, with the flexibility and desire to learn additional technology skills for using varied systems and tools
