Primary Duties:
Provides customer service and technical support in the Lemmen Library and Archives in Seidman House. Assists patrons with reference requests and assists archivists with the preservation, management, digitization, and care of archival materials and rare books.
Responsibilities include working at a user-centered service desk in the Reading Room, enabling access and delivery of collections from closed storage, and overseeing proper security protocols, care and handling of rare or fragile materials. Additionally, the position may assist with digitizing and producing descriptive metadata for digital collections, ensuring accessibility and discoverability of digital objects. Position will assist archivists with the preservation, arrangement, description, use of archival materials and rare books. Responsibilities may include opening and closing the library location, ensuring collection and building security.
Qualifications: MLS/MLIS from ALA accredited institution or equivalent, or completion of 50% of that same degree. Coursework or experience in libraries, preferably in archives. Excellent time management, flexibility, and interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
Position Start date: May 1st, 2025
Schedule: 25 hours per week
Work location: Seidman House, 4053 Calder drive, Allendale, MI 49401
Length of contract: 25 weeks
Salary would be equivalent to approximately $25.00/hour
