The College of Education & Community Innovation at Grand Valley State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position in Undergraduate Elementary Education beginning August 2025. Qualifications include a PhD or ABD in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or closely related field; extensive knowledge of PK-6 schools, pedagogy, diversity, equity, and inclusion; excellent communication, organization, and time management skills; ability to problem-solve; collaborate; and display professionalism.
Primary Duties:
- Teaching undergraduate courses in PK-6 education, both in person and using online synchronous and asynchronous modalities; coordinating PK-6 teacher education programs; advising students; participating in service obligations; and conducting meaningful research that will be disseminated to a diverse audience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Doctorate in Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD Candidates will be considered if doctoral degree is completed before August 1, 2025;
- Specialized knowledge of theory and pedagogy practices related to PK-6 education;
- Demonstrated evidence of successful record of teaching at the university level;
- Record of relevant scholarship or evidence of an emerging research agenda in teacher education or a related field;
- Willingness and ability to teach courses in an online or hybrid format, as well as traditionally, on weekends, and/or during other non-traditional times;
- Willingness and ability to travel for instruction and student supervision;
- Effective oral, written, organizational and collaborative interpersonal skills;
- Minimum of 4 years of successful experience as a certified teacher in a PK-6 classroom;
- Demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Evidence of student-centered and relationship-centered teaching;
- Demonstrate commitment to teaching with an intersectional lens;
- Experience with teaching guidance, management and assessment in PK-6 settings;
- Leadership experience with program coordination;
- Demonstrate engagement with or interest in using a variety of pedagogies that consider multiple forms of oppression (based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability/disability, neurodiversity, etc.);
- Engagement in collaborative endeavors with colleagues (e.g., research, teaching, curriculum development, etc.);
- Experience with -based instructions;
- Experience with engaging stakeholders at university, community and professional levels;
- Experience with using various modalities of instruction including face-to-face, online synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid.
- Experience with accreditation process.
Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some travel may be required.
Minimum Starting Salary: $64,000; commensurate with experience.
