Audiovisual Specialist

As an Audiovisual Specialist, you’ll combine technical AV expertise with outstanding guest service to ensure events run smoothly from initial planning through the final presentation.

You’ll serve as a primary technical resource for events, working directly with guests to understand their needs, coordinating closely with internal Hospitality and Events teams, and setting up, operating, and troubleshooting audiovisual systems throughout Meijer Gardens.

Your work will directly support the quality of events and experiences throughout Meijer Gardens while helping other teams make the most effective use of our audiovisual resources.


What You’ll Do
Event AV Support
  • Serve as the primary technical support for assigned events from setup through completion.
  • Conduct pre-event sound checks and respond to technical needs throughout events.
  • Set up, operate, troubleshoot, and support audiovisual equipment and systems.
Guest Consultation & Service
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for guests regarding their audiovisual needs.
  • Meet and communicate with guests to understand event requirements and recommend appropriate AV solutions.
  • Deliver responsive, professional, guest-centered service to both internal and external guests.
Event Planning & Coordination
  • Partner closely with the Hospitality team to coordinate audiovisual requirements for events.
  • Assist with planning AV setups and determining appropriate equipment and technical needs.
  • Coordinate AV details to help ensure smooth and successful event execution.
AV Services & Sales
  • Work directly with hospitality guests to identify and communicate available audiovisual services.
  • Support the sale of AV services through guest conversations and in-person meetings.
  • Balance technical recommendations with guest needs and the overall event experience.
Technical Knowledge & Organizational Support
  • Maintain current knowledge of AV equipment, techniques, software, and industry best practices.
  • Provide occasional audiovisual training and guidance to designated staff.
  • Support audiovisual equipment and technical needs throughout the organization.

What You Bring
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Approximately three years of experience as an AV Technician preferred.
  • Demonstrated strength in customer service, teamwork, sales, and project management.
  • Working knowledge of audiovisual equipment and the software used to operate AV systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to translate technical information for guests and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • InfoComm certification preferred.

Working Conditions: This position requires a flexible work schedule based on event needs, including evenings and weekends. A base schedule is generally maintained during non-event periods, with alternating weekends typical, although schedules may change based on events. Work takes place across professional indoor environments, offices, grounds, exhibition areas, and event spaces throughout Meijer Gardens.

Physical Requirements: The position requires mobility throughout offices, grounds, exhibition areas, and event spaces; the ability to observe details at close range and communicate information accurately; and occasional manipulation, setup, and movement of equipment. Employees must be able to handle objects weighing up to approximately 20 pounds with regularity. The role may also occasionally require the use of lifts to adjust lighting or other audiovisual equipment.
