We are seeking a Tram Operator who enjoys engaging with people, working outdoors, and delivering exceptional guest service while maintaining a strong focus on safety.

This role ensures guests can comfortably and safely navigate across Meijer Gardens while enhancing their experience through informative, engaging interactions. As both a driver and ambassador, you help bring Meijer Gardens to life for every passenger.

What You’ll Do
Safely Transport Guests
  • Operate the tram safely along designated routes
  • Assist quests with boarding and exiting, including those with mobility needs
  • Perform daily inspections and report any safety or mechanical concerns
Deliver Exceptional Guest Experience
  • Provide friendly, professional, and inclusive service to all guests
  • Share information about gardens, sculptures, and seasonal highlights
  • Adapt communication style to meet diverse guest needs
Support Guest Engagement & Operations
  • Operate or support narration during tram tours
  • Assist with scooter rental or ticketing operations as needed
  • Use technology tools to support guest flow and service
Serve as a Cultural Ambassador
  • Help guests connect with Meijer Gardens' mission, exhibits, and features
  • Highlight key landmarks, programs, and experiences along the route
  • Encourage exploration and engagement throughout the visit
Collaborate Across Teams
  • Work closely with narrators, volunteers, and guest services staff
  • Communicate guest needs and operational updates
  • Support a consistent and positive visitor experience
What You Bring
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to remain attentive and safety-focused in public environments
  • Comfort working outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to engage and communicate with diverse audiences
  • Requirements: Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid Michigan Driver's License (no restrictions). Ability to obtain required passenger endorsement and training.
  • Preferred: Experience in customer service, hospitality, or tourism. Experience operating vehicles, carts, or similar equipment. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills

Working Conditions: This role operates primarily outdoors throughout the grounds of Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Work is performed in a wide range of weather conditions, including heat, humidity, cold, wind, rain, and sun exposure, as well as natural elements such as pollen and insects. The position requires consistent interaction with guests in a public environment with varying activity levels, including high-volume visitation, families, and diverse audiences. The role involves navigating busy pathways, outdoor landscapes, and event environments while maintaining situational awareness and safety. Noise levels may vary due to guest activity, events, and operational equipment.
Physical Requirements: This role requires the ability to safely operate a passenger tram for extended periods while maintaining alertness and awareness. The position involves frequent sitting while driving, along with periods of standing and walking to assist guests and perform inspections. Tasks include climbing into and out of the tram, bending, reaching, crouching during safety checks and guest assistance. Occasional lifting and carrying of items up to approximately 25 pounds may be required. The role requires vision and hearing for safe operation and guest interaction, as well as the ability to communicate clearly and confidently with individuals and groups. Comfort working outdoors for extended periods in varying environmental conditions is essential.
