Part-Time Facility Attendant – Event Set-Up

About the Position

As a Part-Time Facility Attendant (Event Set-Up), you’ll be a key contributor to the success of events held at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. Your efforts help ensure our spaces are clean, organized, safe, and ready to host meaningful gatherings—from cultural celebrations and performances to meetings and special events.

What You’ll Do

  • Set up and take down event spaces, including tables, chairs, staging, and equipment
  • Prepare rooms according to event layouts and schedules
  • Assist with pre- and post-event cleaning and general facility upkeep
  • Work alongside event and facility staff to ensure smooth, on-time transitions
  • Follow safety procedures and properly handle equipment
  • Help create a welcoming, professional environment for guests and visitors

Requirements:

Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
Certifications/Licenses:
Current First Aid and CPR certification preferred
Experience:
A minimum of 1 year commercial or professional cleaning and or related set-up experience required.
Event set-up experience preferred.
Facility Maintenance (light duty) experience preferred.
Knowledge and Abilities
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent customer service
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification preferred
  • Ability to interact with facility guests, staff, vendors, and contractors in a courteous and professional manner to support a safe and positive experience.
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Working knowledge of event set-up practices, including staging, seating arrangements, basic audio/visual equipment, and décor placement.
  • Ability to safely move, assemble, and disassemble tables, chairs, stages, and other event materials, including items of significant weight.
  • General knowledge of fire codes, ADA accessibility requirements, and basic event safety practices, with the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Basic working knowledge of computer systems.
  • Basic proficiency with common business applications such as Microsoft Outlook and Word, or comparable tools.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks effectively while maintaining awareness of time and event deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to changing event needs and schedules while exercising sound judgment.
  • Ability to identify routine needs and concerns within the scope of assigned responsibilities and communicate them appropriately.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a collaborative environment.

  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including nights, weekends, and periodic holiday shifts.

Working Conditions:
Physical Requirements
The Lead- Facility Attendant must possess basic mobility to navigate offices,
grounds, and exhibition areas. The role requires the ability to observe details at close range and
communicate accurately with staff and guests. The position involves regularly lifting and
moving items up to 50 lbs., frequently up to 100 lbs., including
supplies, and equipment. The Lead must be able to kneel, stoop, bend, and lift as
needed, and occasionally ascend or descend ladders to access storage or equipment.
Environmental Requirements
This position primarily operates in indoor environments but may require regular work
outdoors, including exposure to inclement weather conditions. The Lead will work in a fast paced
setting that demands flexibility and physical stamina to handle operational needs. Tasks
may involve extended periods of standing and walking throughout the facility, as well as
performing hands-on activities, regular lifting and movement related to event-set- up and operations.
