Description:
Fifth Wheel Freight is a top-performing 3PL (Third-Party Logistics) company obsessed with speed, precision, and relentless improvement. We’re looking for a Software Engineer with 7+ years of experience to join our high-pressure, high-reward team. This is not a role for the average developer – you’ll be working amongst the FWF Software Development team to build and support proprietary technology that directly shapes how we dominate the freight market.
Note: This role requires 100% on-site work in our office in Kentwood, MI for the first 90 days of employment, with potential for a hybrid schedule following.
What you’ll do:
- Work with development team to support the build of mission-critical applications from scratch.
- Be ready to own your code in production, including on-call rotation for outages.
- Upon release of major systems, will be spearheading support of those systems.
- Operate in a fast-paced, high-expectation environment – we don’t settle for good enough.

Required qualifications:
- 7+ years of full-stack development experience, including building complex systems from scratch.
- Experience supporting systems and teams through bug fixes and maintenance - and the ability to work quickly and communicate effectively as it relates to that support
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Typescript API development
- Modern JavaScript frameworks for front-end development
- Database design and integration
- Unit and End-to-End automated testing methods and tools.
- Proficiency in Typescript, React, Postgres and AWS Infrastructure
- Proven ability to thrive under pressure and in high-performance environments
- Open to feedback from multiple parties and quick to adapt or pivot as needed
- Creative, scrappy problem-solver who thinks outside the box
- Eager to learn the freight industry and contribute meaningfully
- Willing to work 100% on-site in Grand Rapids for the first 90 days, with potential for hybrid after 90 days
- Committed to high standards—mediocrity isn’t in your vocabulary
