Summary of Position: The Visitor Services Assistant provides front-line visitor services and operational support for the Jim Crow Museum. This position helps create a welcoming, respectful, organized, and educational experience for all museum visitors from arrival through departure.
Primary responsibilities include greeting and orienting visitors, assisting with admissions and ticketing, responding to visitor questions, providing information about museum policies and exhibits, supporting group arrivals and special events, monitoring public spaces, and assisting with the museum's daily operations.

This isa part-time position limited to no more than 28 hours per week.

Required Work Experience: Experience working with the public in a customer service, hospitality, retail, educational, museum, or similar environment.

Additional Education/Experiences to be Considered:
Essential Duties/Responsibilities: • Welcome visitors and serve as a primary point of contact at the Jim Crow Museum.
• Provide visitors with information about admission, museum hours, exhibits, amenities, accessibility, policies, programs, and special events.
• Assist visitors with ticket purchases, check-in, reservations, and other admission-related processes.
• Work with student employees to ensure front-of-house operations are covered.
• Respond professionally and appropriately to visitor questions and concerns.
• Monitor galleries and other public spaces to support visitor safety, appropriate conduct, and protection of museum objects and exhibits.
• Maintain an orderly and professional guest services/front desk area.
• Answer telephone inquiries and assist with general museum correspondence as assigned.
• Assist with museum retail or gift shop operations, including sales and basic point-of-sale functions, as assigned.
• Assist with opening and closing procedures.
• Communicate visitor concerns, facility issues, emergencies, or unusual incidents promptly to appropriate museum staff.
• Carries out responsibilities in accordance with university policies and applicable laws.
• Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
• Support, promote, and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
• Any other duties assigned within the position classification area.
Marginal Duties/Responsibilities:
Skills and Abilities: • Effective verbal communication skills and ability to communicate with individuals and groups.
• Ability to interact respectfully and professionally with visitors of diverse ages, backgrounds, identities, and perspectives.
• Ability to learn and accurately communicate museum information, policies, and procedures.
• Ability to exercise appropriate judgment regarding when a visitor concern should be referred to supervisory or professional museum staff.
• Dependability and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of designated information and perform duties in accordance with applicable University and museum policies and procedures.
• Basic computer skills and ability to learn ticketing, point-of-sale, reservation, and other museum systems.
• Ability to work Saturdays and weekday evenings when necessary.
• Demonstrated successful experience working directly with people from diverse backgrounds, including cultural, educational, socioeconomic, and life experiences.
