About The Role
With all of these exciting achievements and even more impactful projects approaching, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. (DGRI) is in search of an
Maintenance & Activation Coordinator that will work in collaboration with the Activation and Events team to create unique placemaking experiences for Downtown Grand Rapids. This position will administer, develop, coordinate and manage execution of various activation programs to ensure the Downtown provides a one-of-a-kind experience for residents, employees, and visitors furthering the city and downtowns GR Forward Master Plan.
The position involves a confluence of various disciplines related to urban place management, including but not limited to parks, public art, placemaking, events, programming, and other activation strategies for both public and private spaces within the downtown district. Additionally, this role will be responsible for installations, equipment, building, and maintaining activities at DGRI-produced events throughout the year.
The position will work closely with the DGRI Director of Public Space Management, as well as related agencies and organizations within the community including various City of Grand Rapids departments.
Our Ideal Candidate Will
- Have an High school diploma or equivalent education and experience with three (3) or more years of experience in a similar role.
- Manage implementation of organizational strategic priorities at the direction of the Director of Public Space Management.
- Mange the seasonal and daily hired staff for event staffing and activation efforts along with overseeing all contractors required for an effective event.
- Help to oversee all day of logistics at events and installations which include setting up, running the event, and tear down. Major events include State of the Downtown, World of Winter, Return to the River, Relax at Rosa, and others.
- Maintains excellent customer service protocols, facilitates the resolution of concerns, requests, and suggestions from community members as well as maintains positive relationships with downtown oriented event products and key stakeholders.
- Coordinates vendor bidding and selection processes; negotiates and administers contracts with outside vendors for maximum service and cost effectiveness when needed.
- Be team oriented and willing to support the entire DGRI team as necessary through activation efforts
- Book equipment needed for installations and events, maintain inventory and organization of storage space, and provide routine maintenance of DGRI produced and managed installations and activation efforts.
- Assists DGRI staff in other projects and activities to fulfill the mission of the organization while performing any other tasks assigned by the Director of Public Space Management to the intent of the position.
