Senior Mechanical Engineer – Grand Rapids, Michigan
DISHER is currently partnering with a leader in food stabilization in Grand Rapids, MI to fill their Senior Mechanical Engineer position. This role owns the mechanical design of the company's mill technology end-to-end and leads system design from concept through production, working closely with electrical and controls engineering to deliver integrated, reliable capital equipment.

What you will get to do:

  • Lead the mechanical design of custom drying systems in SolidWorks, from concept through production release.
  • Serve as the technical owner of the company's mill technology, accountable for all aspects of its mechanical design.
  • Develop detailed 3D models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings to production-ready standards.
  • Collaborate with electrical and controls engineering to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Identify and engage with suppliers for quoting off-the-shelf and custom-designed parts.
  • Provide technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle, including design reviews, risk assessments, and troubleshooting.
  • Engage directly with customers and stakeholders to understand requirements, present solutions, and incorporate feedback.
  • Support build, testing, and commissioning activities as needed, including travel to customer or vendor sites.
  • Mentor junior mechanical engineers and review their design work for technical soundness and manufacturability.
  • Partner with Operations on design-for-manufacture, documentation control, and project schedule commitments within the company's project process.

What will make you successful:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field from an accredited university.
  • Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including design library development, complex assemblies, and surfacing.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a track record of delivering innovative, pragmatic engineering solutions.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience designing custom industrial process systems and machines.
  • High emotional intelligence, with the ability to communicate effectively with customers, vendors, and executive leadership.
  • Experience with machine design, high-speed rotating machinery, and milling / drying operations and / or food processing.
  • Solid understanding of control systems and how they integrate with mechanical designs.
  • Experience specifying and quoting with suppliers.
