Cornerstone University is seeking a full time, Professor of Practice of English and/or Linguistics for a one-year, temporary assignment. We are a theologically conservative Christian University located in Grand Rapids, MI. Candidates can look forward to teaching general education English courses in writing and composition, co-requisite courses in grammar and writing. Other courses such as literature or advanced writing such as TESOL are possible according to the candidate’s specialization area. Further opportunities exist to apply areas of strength and experience to courses and projects across the university such as teacher training and excellence, AI integration, and design and innovation. Successful candidates will give evidence of scholarly potential and demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and online teaching. Other responsibilities include scholarly engagement in the candidate’s specialization area, assessment of student learning, student recruitment and other departmental duties as assigned.

Requirements and Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the faculty are teaching, spiritual modeling and mentoring, scholarship, and involvement in and service to Cornerstone and the general community. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching. Cornerstone provides a Christ-focused education that is dedicated to smaller class sizes and one on one training of students. Our faculty enjoy working together to mentor and teach our eager students the complexities of human thinking, wisdom, and connection with a Christian Worldview.

A successful candidate will possess a relevant advanced degree and seven to ten years of work-related experience including teaching and developing courses both online and on campus with excellence.

Physical requirements include the ability to teach classes, use computers, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.

Salary and Start Date:

  • The actual base salary will be commensurate with professional qualifications, skills, education, and experience.
  • This temporary position is not eligible for benefits.
  • Start Date: August 17, 2026.
