Position Overview

The Assistant Golf Coach supports the Head Golf Coach in all aspects of the men's and women's golf programs. This role contributes to the development of student-athletes academically, athletically, spiritually, and personally while helping advance the mission of Cornerstone University. The Assistant Coach assists with coaching, recruiting, team operations, travel coordination, and student-athlete mentorship while fostering a Christ-centered culture that reflects the University's values and the NAIA Champions of Character initiative.


Essential Responsibilities

Coaching and Student-Athlete Development

  • Assist in planning, organizing, and conducting practices, training sessions, competitions, and skill-development activities.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to enhance student-athletes' technical skills, strategic understanding, and competitive performance.
  • Evaluate athlete performance and provide constructive feedback to support continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, discipline, accountability, and personal growth.

Spiritual Formation and Student Support

  • Support the University's Christ-centered mission by encouraging the spiritual growth and development of student-athletes.
  • Model Christian character and servant leadership in all interactions with students, staff, opponents, and officials.
  • Foster meaningful relationships with student-athletes and encourage their holistic development academically, spiritually, socially, and athletically.

Program Operations

  • Assist with the coordination of team travel, scheduling, equipment management, and game-day or tournament operations.
  • Support recruiting efforts, including identifying prospective student-athletes, maintaining communication with recruits, and representing the University at recruiting events.
  • Assist with fundraising activities, youth camps, clinics, alumni engagement, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and complete program-related administrative tasks as assigned.

Compliance and Institutional Engagement

  • Ensure compliance with all Cornerstone University, Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC), and NAIA policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Support the mission of the University by building positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Golf Coach, Athletic Director, or other supervisors.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with Cornerstone University's mission, values, and Christian faith commitments.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NAIA Champions of Character core values: Integrity, Respect, Responsibility, Sportsmanship, and Servant Leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to mentor, motivate, and positively influence student-athletes from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with coaches, administrators, faculty, staff, alumni, and prospective students.
  • Knowledge of golf fundamentals, techniques, strategy, and player development principles.
  • Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and other non-traditional hours as required by the athletics schedule.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record and the ability to transport student-athletes in accordance with University policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Competitive golf experience at the collegiate or equivalent level.
  • Experience working in a Christian higher education environment and supporting student spiritual development.
