Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, performs scientific investigative research and participates in carrying out research objectives using established policies and procedures. Researches literature in the field. Conducts experiments and collects and analyzes data using various degrees of statistical methodology.

Essential Functions

  • Plans and sets up equipment and conducts experiments following established protocols and research methodology; gathers data for analysis and interpretation of test results.
  • Conducts critical analyses and evaluation of laboratory data generated on patients or from laboratory tests and formulates a hypothesis from the relationships found. Plans and performs various types of experimentation which may use animals and experimental models.
  • Assays samples, interprets group data, and may prepare reagents. Operates sophisticated laboratory equipment to conduct research.
  • Processes and records samples, orders materials for assays, determines schedule for assays planned. Makes written progress reports and prepares summaries of data.
  • Keeps abreast of new techniques and reviews literature in the field pertinent to the area of research. May assist in writing papers for publication and scientific presentations based on research performed. May assist in the preparation of annual reports an in writing research proposals. Proposes new ideas, discusses and/or advises the feasibility of proposed research.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science from an accredited college or university
  • 2 years of relevant experience laboratory research experience, preferably in the scientific field pertinent to the area of research conducted

Preferred

  • Master's Degree of Science
