Scope of Work
This leader supervises and oversees the daily activities of Respiratory Therapists, assistants and support staff to ensure the efficient and effective delivery of quality respiratory care. Coordinates and monitors Respiratory programs, policies and procedures and assumes the responsibility for ensuring that all programs are administered according to company standards and regulatory compliance.
Essential Functions
Supervises and oversees the daily work of Respiratory Therapists and assistants who administer respiratory care. This includes the evaluation, treatment, management, and care of patients with acute, chronic and critical deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system. Ensures that all respiratory care is administered in accordance with policy and protocol guidelines and is consistent with department and legal/regulatory standards.
Supervises the activities of technical and support staff, who are engaged in providing respiratory therapy. Provides direction and support to subordinate staff to ensure effectiveness and efficiency. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include participation in the hiring process; mentor, coach and develop staff and acts as a role model and resource to them; plan and assign work. Encourage excellence in performance and delivers positive and negative feedback to staff in an ongoing manner and in performance appraisals; communicates staff performance to department manager. Utilize reward and corrective action processes as appropriate; address complaints, research and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Engages in continuous study of professional field, including best practices, to maintain professional competence, knowledge, and skill.
Maintains clinical competency by periodically performing periodic patient care assignment. Assures accurate and timely completion of all necessary documentation and billing.
Completes and documents required education and competencies within designated timeframe.
Participates on departmental and hospital committees/task forces. Attends meetings and in-services as required for position.
Qualifications
Associate's Degree or equivalent Respiratory or related field. Required
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Respiratory or related field. Preferred
1 year of relevant experience Skills, knowledge, abilities typically gained through 1+ year of related experience. Required
3 years of relevant experience Respiratory Care. Required
1 year of relevant experience supervisory/charge. Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required Or
Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross 90 Days required
Respiratory Therapist Registry - NBRC National Board for Respiratory Care Upon Hire required
Respiratory Therapist - State of Michigan Upon Hire required
