The Corewell Health Wayne Birthing Center serves our families with a 3-bed triage, eleven labor/delivery/recovery rooms offering large showers, refrigerators, and individual blanket warmers. We also boast private Jacuzzi room, two ante partum rooms, two operating rooms, and a 2-bed recovery room. The Birthing Center cares for low-risk patients in a family centered environment. Our nurses are certified in External Fetal Monitoring and are also trained in Neonatal Resuscitation. Our goal is to assist the childbearing family with the support and skills they need on their journey through labor, childbirth, and early parenting.

The hospital has been serving the community since 1957 and has a long-standing partnership with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to help oversee a variety of health and communicable disease concerns.
This RN Manager will lead a high performing team of 50+ serving our community through labor, childbirth, and early parenting.
Scope of work
The RN Manager is an experienced leader responsible for managing assigned areas and services and supervising assigned patient care staff to promote the creation of a center of excellence for staff recruitment and retention and clinical and business outcomes. The Nurse Manager is responsible to ensure safe and effective delivery of patient care and clinical outcomes, compliance with regulatory, administrative, and clinical standards, and policies and procedures. The Nurse Manager serves as a chief retention and safety officer. He/she ensures that safety and quality standards are upheld by effective use of data and technology to make decisions and proactively mitigates unnecessary risks for his/her area of responsibility. The Nurse Manager creates and ensures a desirable, safe work environment that enables the organization to meet or exceed its mission and goals. He/she models the way to foster communication and collaboration with physicians, staff, patients, and other departments. Role specific competencies, responsibilities, roles, and functions are based on the Professional Practice Model. This position reports to the Director of Nursing or above.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Under general direction, maintains 24-hour responsibility and accountability for providing leadership and management of a designated patient care unit which promotes quality nursing care, cost effective use of resources and professional growth for nursing staff. Promotes a Patient Family Centered Care Culture.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) Required.
- Master’s degree in nursing (MSN) Required.
- Three years of relevant labor and delivery clinical nursing experience Required.
- Minimum of one year of formal nursing leadership experience for external applicants Required.
- Minimum of 2 years demonstrated informal leadership experience for internal applicants, may include but is not limited to: Charge Lead Nurse, Charge Nurse responsibilities, leadership on behalf of unit/site/system at Shared Governance Council Required.
- MI Registered Nurse (RN) Required.
- AHA or ARC Basic Life Saving (BLS) Required.
- AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Preferred.
