Job Summary
The Energy Manager is a pro-active leader who partners with site leadership to analyze utility consumption and to develop strategies to reduce energy demand across Corewell Health System. The position has system wide responsibility and requires excellent communication skills that facilitate programs with a highly engaged team approach. Extensive knowledge of leading energy practices is required.
Essential Functions
- Develop energy management & sustainability strategy for Corewell Healths real estate portfolios, then implement programs to achieve savings goals and targets by specified timelines.
- Manage energy benchmarking and assessment using Energy Star Portfolio Manager as well as internal software platforms; analyze energy and water consumption metrics to identify opportunities and create plans to sustain energy savings.
- Lead identification and prioritization of energy capital projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades that result in reduced energy consumption. This may include HVAC, lighting, building envelope, demand response and controls, plug loads, distributed generation (Solar, fuel cells), employee engagement, and evaluating new technologies and services.
- Conduct ASHRAE LEVEL 1 and LEVEL 2 energy audits and walkthroughs.
- Establish and monitor utilities budgets, oversee bill payment and data management processes. Provide forecasts of utility expenses throughout the portfolio.
- Facilitate energy procurement processes on regular intervals.
- Develop and evaluate financial viability of projects for budgeting and approval.
- Leverage financial levers such as utility company rebates, programs, and relationships to enhance project viability.
- Report clear and concise metrics on various energy and sustainability activities (cost savings, CO2, water, etc.), and achievements on prescribed intervals or as requested by the SVP, Support Services. Communicate plans and progress to all levels of staff through presentations and meetings.
- Utilize internal and third-party sustainability data management platforms for reporting. Ensure data integrity and establish data management processes.
- Advise, coach, and support building staff (facility managers, engineers, technicians) in identifying, scoping, and implementing energy efficiency improvements.
- Collaborate with other energy and sustainability managers to share and learn best practices and publish case studies of successful initiatives. Leverage industry experts in renewable energy, energy supply procurement, and building intelligence tools to meet Corewell Health goals.
- Continually monitor industry trends, evaluate new products and services for potential, and participate in industry working groups. Oversee pilot tests of cutting-edge energy and sustainability solutions.
- Improve sustainability of facilities in line with industry best practices such as LEED and beyond.
- Support water saving programs and recycling programs as requested.
Qualifications
- Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Engineering (electrical, mechanical, industrial, civil) or equivalent work experience.
- 3 years of relevant experience Energy conservation, energy management, performance contracting or energy engineering. Required
- Advanced, in-depth knowledge of sustainability and energy principles and concepts, particularly related to the Healthcare environment. Required
- Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, building automation and control systems across a variety of healthcare environments. Required
- 5 years of relevant experience Energy conservation, energy management, performance contracting or energy engineering. Preferred
- CRT-Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design - Accredited Professional (LEED-AP) - UNKNOWN Unknown Upon Hire preferred
- CRT-Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) - IAEM International Association of Emergency Managers Upon Hire preferred
