Human Resources Intern
Pay and Benefits: The pay for this position is $15/hour, with flexible scheduling available. This position is not eligible for the City's benefit package, but other educational and interpersonal benefits come with this opportunity, including:

Summary of the Position:The Human Resources Intern will directly assist the Human Resources Director with a wide range of projects related to HR compliance, recruiting, the hiring process, onboarding/orientation, and two major projects throughout the course of the internship. This internship is designed to be both educational and practical. In this position, the Intern will learn how to take skills they have acquired in a school related setting and apply them in the professional workplace. They will gain a better understanding of the role that Human Resources plays in a municipal setting and will leave better prepared to work in the arena of Human Resources and the municipal sector. The candidate will also have opportunities to network with various departments and staff.
Essential Functions of the Position:

- Reviews and updates job descriptions at the direction of the Human Resources Director and hiring managers.
- Posts job listings to the City website, Indeed, and other noted posting locations as required; manages applications and distributes information to hiring managers; prints applications and other documents as needed.
- Collaborates with other departments for job posting advertising and promotion.
- Schedules interviews with candidates via email and phone call.
- Reviews and updates interview questions and packets as needed.
- Creates interview packets and distributes among the interview panel.
- Assists Human Resources Director with clerical work, such as phone calls, emails, and filing.
- This intern will be assigned two major projects throughout the course of the internship revolving around the hiring process model and documentation management.
- Other duties as assigned.
Practical Applications:
The Human Resources Intern will learn the practical application of:
- Steps in the recruiting and hiring process, including but not limited to: posting job openings, reviewing resumes, and distributing application documents to hiring managers.
- The importance of employment law and compliance, especially regarding employment eligibility, confidentiality, proper maintenance of employee files, and forms management.
- Documentation management and appropriate distribution procedures for applications and resumes.
- Importance of employee and supervisor trainings.
- OSHA log compliance.
- Union job posting procedures and compliance.
- Fundamentals of Benefits Management.
Qualifications: - Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree program with interest and aptitude to work in Human Resources, or non-profit management/administrative fields.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments simultaneously.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and internet applications; experience and knowledge of Sharepoint is a plus.
- Basic knowledge of personnel administration.
- Basic understanding of compliance law and regulation.
- Ability to prioritize new tasks when situations change suddenly.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently.

The employee occasionally must travel to other locations.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a business office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
