Income Tax Intern
Supervised By: Income Tax Administrator
Hourly Rate: $15/hour
About the Position:Under the supervision of the Income Tax Administrator, this position assists with and performs complex clerical work in processing, maintenance and review of general income tax forms. Maintains income tax files, assists the public and performs other technical work as required. This employee is expected to perform daily work with minimal supervision. Interns may work up to 20 hours. Additional hours are available based upon the schedule of the individual.
Essential Functions of the Position: - Answers telephones and makes appointments. Responsible for opening and sorting income tax department mail. Performs routine customer service functions and clerical tasks.
- Updates taxpayer records, including account creation and navigation of Insource Software.
- Composes and prepares various forms of correspondence, records and reports.
- Performs mathematical computations and updates records as needed.
- Responsible for entering various tax payments into the city tax software, balancing daily receipt and deposit reports.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of income tax office information, operations and records.
- Performs related work as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications: - Ability to understand the City's Income Tax Ordinance.
- Ability to accurately and efficiently enter various forms of data.
- Ability to read and interpret complex documents.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all materials, information and knowledge associated with taxpayer data.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications with the ability to master city tax software and other software programs and applications used by the City.
- Ability to effectively communicate ideas and concepts.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise good judgement, initiative, and resourcefulness when dealing with the public, elected officials, and other employees.
- Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy in contentious or confrontational situations.
- Ability to understand and follow complex instructions, manage multiple tasks, and work effectively under stress, within deadlines and with changes in work priority.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate in person and by telephone, read regular and small print, view and produce written and electronic documents, and enter data on a computer keyboard with repetitive keystrokes. The employee must be mobile in an office setting, stand, sit, stoop, and kneel, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally must travel to other locations and lift and/or move items of light to moderate weight.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a business office setting. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
