POSITION: Nurse
REPORTS TO: Program Physician / Program Director NORMAL HOURS: 5:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday/Thursday
6:00 a.m. – 9:15 a.m. every other Saturday
STATUS: Half-Time
OVERVIEW OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for working in a coordinated effort with other medical staff in providing quality services to patients diagnosed with substance use disorder. These services must be ethical and consistent with state and federal guidelines and in accordance with requirements and guidelines of our clients and other accreditation agencies.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Dispense methadone doses to patients as ordered by program physician.
- Record program physician’s orders for dose changes.
- Obtain program physician’s signature on verbal methadone orders.
- Monitor dosing equipment for correct dosage calibration.
- Monitor prescription/medications for correct dosage.
- Monitor patient’s physical and mental health status while dispensing methadone.
- Observe ingestion of methadone doses on site.
- Ensure patient’s signature on date methadone dose is dispensed.
- Identify patients who are under the influence and/or intoxicated.
- Identify patients who have physical, emotional illness through observation.
- Monitor patient’s urine drop, to ensure validly of urine specimen.
- Prepare and packages urine and blood specimens for outside lab testing.
- Secure the safe and dispensing areas.
- Transfer methadone from safe to dispensing area.
- Return undispensed methadone to safe.
- Maintain accurate records of daily dispensed methadone doses
- Maintain patient’s daily dispensing record.
- Maintain real-time dose log.
- Perform medical assessments on intake patients
- Review and update medical records on patients.
- Keep records of prescriptions/medications patients obtain from other doctors.
- Maintain a file for special take-out request forms.
- Provide medical counseling to enhance general health of patients.
- Assist patients in seeking appropriate health care as needed.
- Maintain adequate inventory of medical supplies, specimen containers, labels, needles, tang, jolly ranchers, cups, bottles, caps, etc.
- Maintain documentation on presenting patient issues in their electronic record.
- Update and maintain tracking sheet for pregnancy, charting and urine analysis.
- Track and schedule routine medical evaluation appointments with the physician.
- Perform track mark checks on patients.

- Tidy up medication dispensing area.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Registered Nurse
- LPNS
- CPR or BLS Certification
- Up-to-date knowledge of addictions, HEP-C, HIV issues.
- Knowledge and ability to use computers and software to include word- processing and database management
